The man is alleged to have entered one of his neighbour's properties at at about 12.40pm last Thursday.
After he was reportedly chased by a man who lived at the house, police said the alleged offender was found in the backyard of another Tink Avenue property.
The man was detained after police negotiators spoke with him. Police allegedly found a machete on the ground beside the man.
He was later assessed at Dubbo Hospital and then charged with unauthorised weapon possession, intimidation and illegally entering a building.
He appeared before Magistrate Brian Van Zuylen in Dubbo Local Court last Friday and was denied bail.
Court documents revealed the man's legal representative said he was on a methadone program and lived with depression, anxiety and bipolar. He did not enter pleas.
The case returns to court on August 7.
