The Knights website, www.newcastleknights.com.au, revealed an email which had been sent to them from Dave Rattray, the father of the six-year-old boy, Max Rattray, which read, "My six-year-old son, Max, and his best mate, Sanden, we're heading out at Avoca Beach for a surf on Sunday morning when they spotted Connor Watson and Kalyn Ponga on the beach."
"Being absolute footy nuts, they ran up to them and shook their hands and introduced themselves.
"Connor and Kalyn were absolute legends. They took the time to chat to Max and Sanden about their favourite teams and their local footy club, The Kincumber Colts."
"Connor and Kalyn stuck around, watching the boys surf and hooting them on. They even returned after breaky for a swim with the boys."

Rattray told the Knights media team he was "sure Connor and Kalyn didn't think much of this, however I'm also aware that our sport and players are often riddled with negative stories and very rarely hear of the positive impact they have on our youth in their day-to-day interactions." This isn't the first time the talented footballer from Dubbo has been praised for his kind nature, with comments having been posted to the Daily Liberal page on a recent article, regarding the NRL Indigenous round. One comment read, "he [Watson] has a heart of gold," and another said, "he's a great guy".
