Shy and reserved Kai visited the Dubbo Family and Child Health services clinic on Monday to receive his flu shot, which is free for children aged 6 months to five-years-old.
The clown doctors' visit to the Dubbo Children and Health Clinic is part of their NSW tour, and it was one of three places in Dubbo the doctors visited. Family and Child Health Service Nurse Manager, Jane Keys said, "we know laughter is the best medicine, and not only for the children, but for the entire family. Parents also need that support.
"I can imagine how it [the humour] could help change the atmosphere in a hospital. Even with Kai, he was quiet and reserved at the start, and now he is engaging and happy."
Kai's mother Mel Matheson agreed that the doctors helped to brighten people's day, saying once the clown doctors got Kai going, it was nice to see.
"He will leave today and will have a more positive outlook," Ms Matheson said. "They're hilarious, and they're so good with the kids." Kai said he had fun during his time with the clown doctors, and he especially liked the "high fives," "stickers," and "eating cake."
