In celebration of Toy Story 4 opening in cinemas this month, Disney.Pixar has partnered with Save The Children and Reading Cinemas to encourage Australians to donate their quality pre-loved toys.
Until July 21, people can bring their pre-loved toys into Reading Cinema in Riverdale Shopping Centre, drop them in the donation stand and Save The Children will distribute them via its Toy Well program to children across Australia.
Dubbo parents have embraced the project, Reading Cinemas Dubbo cinema complex manager Michael Wakelam said.
"We've already filled five boxes in the first four days," he said.
"People are being very generous, and using it as a reason to clean out their kids' toy boxes."
The Toy Well hubs are a community-run toy library service that aims to make sure no child, whatever their circumstances, misses out on the joy of playing with quality toys.
The donated toys will go on a new adventure to help children in need all across Australia. Some will join Save The Children's Toy Well program, others will make their way into the charity's op shops to help raise vital funds to support our life-changing work.
Toy Story 4 is the latest sequel, released almost 25 years after Woody and Buzz Lightyear first hit the big screen.
"It was a great opening weekend to Toy Story 4, with 1500 people coming to it in two days," Mr Wakelam said.
Toys must be unbroken, have all their parts, work as they are meant to and be clean before they can be accepted as a donation.
Toys depicting violence, for example toy guns, gaming controllers, ride-on toys, and board games are some of the toys that are not suitable for donation.
