Dean Errol Richardson, of Taylor Street, said he did not see the 18-year-old motorcyclist when he attempted to cross the intersection of Brisbane and Erskine streets on September 21 last year.
Court documents revealed that when Richardson pulled in front of the motorcyclist, the victim tried to pull up and the bike slid into the passenger rear side door of Richardson's HiAce van.
"The victim lost consciousness straight away," police said in the court documents.
The teenager had to have surgery to repair a broken wrist and it involved a plate and screws being inserted.
In court Richardson's legal representative said his client entered a guilty plea, was remorseful and struggled to sleep properly after the incident.
Magistrate Theresa Hamilton disqualified Richardson from driving for 12 months and placed him on a community corrections order for 18 months.
