A Coonamble farmer who had his gun stolen has been found guilty of not taking reasonable steps to ensure the firearm was safely kept.

On the afternoon of February 26, Glenn Vincent Fester, of Floddenfield Road, accidentally left a Remington .223 calibre firearm in a vehicle overnight.
When he woke up, the 40-year-old noticed the driver side door of the vehicle was open and the passenger side door was ajar.
The gun was gone.
Fester reported the theft to police, who charged him with not safely securing the firearm.
He fronted Dubbo Local Court last Wednesday and pleaded guilty.

"A weapon has been taken and ended up one knows not where," Magistrate Theresa Hamilton said.
"This will affect your ability to hold a firearm," she told Fester.
He was placed on a conditional release order for 12 months.
A replacement of good behavior bonds, conditional release orders were introduced as a sentencing option for low level offenders in NSW in 2018.
