Contested at Maroubra's Hefron Park, Eather took the win ahead of an extremely strong field which included fellow Dubbo cyclist Luke Ensor in the under 19 men's category. Riding for the Rauland Development Team, Eather won the event with a strong final sprint. Ensor, riding for Mainpac Cycling, was close behind in 12th.
The Dubbo Cycle Club is welcoming many new riders looking to emulate the accomplishments of Eather and Ensor at the criterium training nights held at each week at the Victoria Park track. Tuesdays from 5.45pm sees junior riders take to the track to practice their skills while senior riders start from 6.15pm.
Locally, all the action was at the Mogriguy road course where a handy field of riders contested the 40km handicap event. Having been awarded the under-15 Dubbo track cyclist of the year last week, Tom Williamson showed his potential on the road to finish a strong winner. Williamson paired up with a local cycling legend to hold off a fast finishing group which included Australian champions Simone Grounds, Darrell Wheeler and Jason Farr. All their gold medals combined, however, weren't enough to reign in the winners.
A strong group of four riders will this weekend contest the Cootamundra Haycarters Handicap. This event is one of the country's biggest handicap cycling events over this distance. Previous winners have included Dubbo's Adam Mitchell and Darrel Wheeler. Kurt Eather and Luke Ensor will be joined by David Gerrish and Max Newton there this year.
Senior club racing will see a one-lap 30km event on the Wongarbon road course. Racing will start at 2pm with on the day, entries accepted up to 1.30pm. The club's junior road season stars this week, riders meet at St John's College from 1pm before the Sheraton Rd race.
