"If I can give someone five minutes of laughter to forget their troubles than that's what it's all about. As long as I stay upright on the night," she said.

The Stars of Dubbo Dance for Cancer is an annual fundraiser for the Cancer Council. Local celebrities battle it out on the dance floor to be the best dancer.

For Ms Harland, the reality of what she signed up for hit home on the Easter weekend.

Every weekend she has been travelling back and forth to Cobar to learn the routine she will perform with dancers from Western Studio of Performing Arts.

But when she had time to relax across Easter, Ms Harland said the reality sunk in and she started to get nervous.

On May 11, she's going to perform in front of hundreds with her 12 backup dancers.

"There is a group of us mums who used to watch [the dancing] from the sidelines and we thought 'why do they get to have all the fun?'," she said.

"I wouldn't say we were dancers, I'd say we were entertainers. The youngest is 19-years-old and the oldest is my mum who's 76-years-old. She's going to make a cameo.

"We all know what we're in it for."

Ms Harland said fundraising for Cancer Council was a personal cause for herself and her family. Her and her mum had both had cancer in the past.

"I want to take part to say thank you for the treatment I received. It's a very fun way to be able to contribute and say thank you," she said.

"Cancer's not prejudice or anything like that and we get a lot of it out there. This is a way for me to say 'I'm doing this for you and for everyone'."

The star is hoping to exceed $2500 for the Cancer Council and all up wants to raise $5000.

"The support has just been wonderful. It's difficult out in Cobar with the drought and everything but still at the same time we cant to raise as much money as we can," Ms Harland said.

Money raised from the Stars of Dubbo Dance for Cancer help the charity run programs such as Transport to Treatment.

The Dance for Cancer will be held at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre on May 11. Tickets for the event have sold out.
