The man held one of the four division one winning entries nationally in Monday and Wednesday Lotto draw 3857, drawn Wednesday 3 April 2019, each taking home the guaranteed division one prize of $1 million.
The winner revealed he had played lotto for a very long time but took a while to claim the $1 million.
"I hadn't realised I'd won until I went into the newsagency to grab my lottery tickets," he said.
"When I was there I picked up the results from Wednesday night and took them home and checked my ticket. It was a great surprise!"
The retiree thanked special birthdays in his family for the life-changing win.
"I've been playing for a very long time, since lottery began!" he laughed.
"For about 30 years I've been playing the same numbers. They're all birthdays of my family and now they have paid off.
When asked how he'd celebrate, the hard-working retiring said he wouldn't be taking it easy.
"I'm building a shed at the moment so I'll head out the back to do that," he said.
