The Gold Tigers seemed set for a fairly comfortable victory early on, when Lloyd Chikari (4/16) and Brad Pickering (3/17) combined to roll the Cougars for just 85.
But winning the third grade repechage grand final wasn't as simple as it appeared.
Newtown Gold slumped to 5/39 early on in the chase, as the Cougars bowling attack built a huge amount of pressure and then got its rewards time and time again.

Despite the valiant effort from the CYMS side, John Edwards' unbeaten 44 saw his side claim a four-wicket win.
Earlier, Pickering had done a huge amount of damage with the new ball to leave CYMS 3/35 after 12 overs.
The Cougars needed a fightback but instead they collapsed as Chikari ripped through the middle and lower order.
Chikari took a miserly 4/16 from eight overs as CYMS White lost 6/22 late on.
Daniel Smith, the leading run-scorer in third grade, only made 23 opening the batting but that turned out to be the top-score for the Cougars.
While it was a low total, CYMS White came out firing with the ball to give Newtown Gold a real scare.
Damien Smith (2/12) and Shawn Townsend (2/18) gave their side a real sniff but a quickfire 20 from Pickering and Edwards' patient knock secured a premiership win.
It was the third premiership win of the weekend for Newtown after success in the RSL-Whitney Cup and RSL-Kelly Cup.
