The Dubbo band is made up of Jordan Dennis, Archie Purcell, Max Stewart and Chloe Ahern.
They are one of nine acts to perform at the Under Western Skies Festival, which has been organised by the Songwriters and Original Music Association of Dubbo (SOMAD).
Turn on the Lights started at Dubbo College South Campus with the school band. In the years since it's undergone changes with band members and most recently with their sound.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
Mr Purcell said as a pianist, he wrote a lot of piano heavy songs, whereas now there were new band members they were performing some more upbeat, guitar-focus tracks.
The new songs will be debuted at the festival on Saturday.
Mr Purcell said his favourite came from thinking about Spiderman dying. While the song seemed heartfelt he said the band would be performing it to a Spiderman plushie.
It's an exciting time for Turn on the Lights.
"We recorded an EP (Human Like the Rest of Us) a year or two ago and now we're trying to record a full length album by ourselves which is hard because it's part DIY," Mr Purcell said.
He said the band had purchased their own recording equipment to produce the songs. Once that's complete it'll be released through an online platform.
Mr Purcell said it was really fulfilling to be able to write your own songs. They were also fun to play, he said.
Playing at Under Western Skies will be a big moment for the band, Mr Purcell said. He said they had played at the Dubbo DREAM Festival in the past, however that had been with a school band.
The event is promoting both music and culture.
There'll also be short films from the One Eyed Film Festival playing on a loop and visual works will be projected on the stables in the evening. Fresh Arts will launch an exhibition featuring 15 local artists in the function centre.
The event will also have craft beer and cider stalls, a coffee van, gourmet food and a dedicated kids area.
As well as Turn on the Lights, performing at the Under Western Skies Festival are: Bathurst duo Smith & Jones, rock and roll band Hatakaze from Sydney, Orange troubadour Darren Smith, Gulgong's Daphne Brooks, alternative rock group Mannequin from Dubbo, 90s inspired Sunset Pass and electronic-pop performers Eraser.
The festival starts at 2pm on Saturday at Dundullimal Homestead. Tickets are available through the website: uwsfest.com.
