Late in 2018 Target announced a strategy to close 20 per cent of its floor space across Australia.
The wide spread of closure among Australian country Target stores and City Target stores has swiped close to home, concerning Dubbo residents that their Target Store might be next.

However, Dubbo has not fallen into the 20 per cent of closures.
Gilgandra Council, just 45 minutes from Dubbo, recently announced the closing of their Target after having received the confirmation.
Gilgandra mayor Doug Batten said the timing could not be worse, and spoke out about their displeasure of loosing the store.
“Target Country Gilgandra provides affordable clothing and other well priced household items. With the economic impact of the drought many people in the community rely on this business for their clothing needs. Target’s decision leaves the most vulnerable people in our community in a difficult position," he said.
