A man riding a motorcycle has died in a crash on a rural road near Wellington at the weekend.
Police believe the 30-year-old hit a kangaroo, causing him to fall off his bike.
The crash happened on Saturday night and led to the closure of the Goolma Road for more than four hours.
Orana Mid-Western Police District on Sunday continued investigations.
Shortly before 9pm on Saturday emergency services were called to Goolma Road, Spicers Creek, about 36km north-east of Wellington, following reports of a motorcycle crash.
Dubbo-based Inspector Keith Ridley said a motorist driving ahead on the same road became aware of an incident behind them, returned and found the accident scene.
The motorist assisted with CPR until paramedics arrived, he said.
The motorcyclist died at the scene.
“This is a tragic incident where someone was struck by wildlife on the road,” Inspector Ridley said.
Police as always asked all road users to be aware of their surroundings and drive to the conditions, he said.
Anyone with any information about the crash is asked to contact Dubbo police.
The Goolma Road was closed in both directions and traffic diversions were in place until 1.30am Sunday.
