Wheatley competed over three days at the finals, which coincide with the Tamworth Country Music Festival each year, and returned home as National Finals Champion for Steer Wrestling and Bareback Bronc, as well as the coveted All Round Cowboy.
While not unheard of, it is unusual for one person to claim three national titles. But in true cowboy style, Wheatley was very humble about his achievements.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
“It’s an honour to have come away with three National Finals titles, especially because all the other competitors are at the top of their game,” Wheatley said.
“I’m lucky to be able to enjoy this sport thanks to the ABCRA, the sponsors, committees, volunteers and stock contractors who bring these events together for us to compete.
“So I feel like a big part of my success is because of their efforts as well.”
