Batting at number four, Patterson faced only 25 deliveries in his innings which included three fours and two sixes.
Doug Potter also batted well for Newtown with 21 not out off 22 deliveries which included three boundaries.
“It was a good time to come out to bat, “ Potter said. “When the bowlers roll the other team cheaply and when you have Patto at the other end scoring pretty quickly it made for a pretty easy job.
“Our bowlers are coming into some good form, Lee Price (4/16) bowled well which is handy for us heading into the two-day matches. He has been in second grade and we called him up into firsts and he showed yesterday he is a first-grade bowler.”
The Tigers only needed 14 overs to overrun Souths total. Souths won the toss and batted first but struggled to its total of 101 off 35 overs.
