Hines was one of a small team of riders that headed to the coast last weekend for the annual carnival, which combines the Central Coast and the NSW Junior Omnium Championships.
It was a Hines family affair, with Tim’s son Michael finishing with the silver medal in under 17 championship, and Trent Hines completing the collection with bronze in the under 15 event.
Zara Fuller narrowly missed the podium in the under 17 women’s event while youngest Hines family member, Emily, competed strongly in the under 13 girl’s competition.
Competitive fields braved the heat on Tuesday night for club racing. Jarryd Fuller is riding very strongly in the junior development grades and is certainly a rider to watch in the future.
Mountain biker Jason Billsborough made a long awaited return to the track and showed his experience to be at the front end of all C grade races.
Not to be out done Simone Grounds, dominated B grade, bringing her recent road form with her to the track.
A grade was hotly contested with very close finishes between Danny Barber, Dylan Eather and Luke Ensor being a feature of all races.
An addition to Tuesday night racing is the ‘time blaster’, a half mile race where winning is not enough.
The winning rider has to finish in less than 54 seconds to take the crown. On Tuesday night the winning rider was 0.2 seconds outside that time and despite riding the bike at 53 kilometres per hour, the prize will have to jackpot to next week when they try again.
The club is gearing up for its annual track carnival to be held on Friday, February 9. The $4000 prize money is enticing some of the country’s best riders to come to Dubbo for what may be the last carnival at the Victoria Park track.
The wheelraces are attracting quality fields with the women’s wheelrace already featuring entries from Australian and Canadian national champions along with an Oceania champion and a former Olympian.
The wheelrace will see riders qualifying throughout the carnival compete in a handicapped event designed to give all riders in with a chance of winning on the last lap.
Full bar facilities will be available on the evening, with the chance to see some of the country’s best sports people in action.
