December must deliver more than 62.4 millimetres (mm) of rain before it can join October and November in the winners’ circle.
The Bureau of Meteorology’s seven-day forecast for the city as of Wednesday included a 95 per cent chance of up to 30 mm of rain pelting down on Thursday.
Average rainfall in Dubbo during the month of December is 62.4mm.
At 9am on Wednesday the city had received a total of 10.4mm this month.
The Bureau of Meteorology collected 1mm in its automatic weather station at Dubbo City Regional Airport in the 24-hour period to 9am Tuesday, the first drop of rain for December.
In the following 24 hours, 9.4 mm was recorded.
October 2018 delivered 90.4mm, well above average rainfall for the month of 47.5mm.
Last month the city received 68.6mm of rain, 8mm more than average November rainfall of 60.6mm.
The seven-day forecast suggests rain will become scarce from Friday and rising temperatures will soak up moisture.

Top daytime temperatures on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday are forecast to be 33, 34 and 37 degrees with corresponding minimum temperatures 16, 18 and 19 degrees.
