They knocked rugby over for just 106, before making short work of the run chase on what was arguably a bowler’s wicket.
Skipper Ben Knaggs himself topped the bowling figures with 3/18 from eight overs, but was reluctant to take any credit.
“I thought they were coming out quite nicely but I thought we just kept the pressure on in the field,” he said.
Around the grounds
“Our team bowled really well and when I came out we happened to be on top and our fielding efforts were quite strong, which made it easy to come in and have a great spell.”
He credited Gilbert Chaseling (Aiden Bennewith and Baye Wallace) and Nick Guthrie (Nick Karydis) for taking “some screamers in the field”, with half of Rugby’s wickets falling to catches.
“We bowled in partnerships and really got behind our bowlers in the field and took our chances,” Knaggs said.
“We’re not letting the foot off the throat, and making it really hard for other teams to score runs.”
After finishing off Rugby’s tail quickly (4/13), Stuart Naden (25) and Jake Settree (25) got CYMS’ run chase underway, before falling at the hands of Karydis (1/20) and Ross Horrocks (1/25) respectively.
Knaggs was disappointed – on their behalf – that his opening duo didn’t finish the day not out, but proud that Tom Coady and Tom Nelson “finished it off”.
“With that one bonus point win, it really cements our spot in the top three, and that semi-final berth in the upcoming finals,” the captain said.
“But there’s still plenty of work to be done and the boys are up for it.”
