The accused appeared in Dubbo Local Court this week, almost 12 months after he was arrested at Wellington.
Police alleged the man aged in his 50s committed the offences against an eight-year-old girl.
On Wednesday pleas of guilty were entered on his behalf to taking or detaining a person with intent to commit a serious indictable offence, and to sexual intercourse with a child aged under 10 years.
Both are strictly indictable offences.
Pleas of guilty were also entered on his behalf to two counts of produce child abuse material.
The Crown then withdrew a charge of aggravated sexual assault and two counts of procuring a child aged less than 14 years to produce child abuse material.
The accused, dressed in prison-issue clothes and a beanie, appeared via video link from the correctional centre where he had been remanded in custody last year.
The court heard there was a dispute of the facts in the matter.
Magistrate Gary Wilson committed the man for sentence in the District Court at Dubbo.
The matter will come before a judge early next year.
