Flooring takes the brunt of all day to day activity in a house so it must be durable, but it also needs to perform other functions including adding insulation and improving temperature control, providing additional acoustics or soundproofing, providing protection to the building itself in the case of wet areas, and of course adding style and comfort to your home.
Owner of Choices Flooring in Dubbo, Rod Kennedy, said that people are increasingly trying to find new ways to refresh their properties without having to do full renovations.
“New carpets and tiles can make an amazing difference to your home,” he said. “Products like floating floors are becoming increasingly popular as well given they can be easily installed and have limited preparations that are needed”.
Rod has been involved in the flooring industry for over 35 years, initially laying carpet and other flooring before taking on ownership of Choices Flooring in September, 2017. Despite clocking up a year of ownership recently, Rod said the team hasn’t had a chance to celebrate just yet.
“As the weather warms up during Spring, a lot of people tend to start their renovations and building projects so it is actually a busy time of year for use,” he said. “Owning and running a business like this is something I’ve always wanted to do, to see the other side of the industry, so to have a year under my belt and continue to make improvements to the business is something I’m proud of”.

Rod said that their current customer base would be split evenly between private residents and builders or tradesmen, however the number of individual residents looking at different flooring options is increasing all the time.
“There is a lot of renovation work going on in Dubbo and across the region. Options such as floating floors and products like the new vinyl planks and ‘Genero Multi-Lay’ range are really taking off,” he said. “They give an amazing finish with a hardwood look at a fraction of the cost and with a lot less effort”.
Located on Erskine Street, Choices Flooring have a wide range of flooring products available including carpet, timber, laminates, vinyl, bamboo and rugs, along with window furnishings.
The team of staff have double over the past 12 months ensuring that everyone benefits from one on one customer service and over 50 years of combined industry knowledge. Rod said that their experience in laying floors and carpets helps them immensely when it comes to providing advice and guidance for customers.
