The inaugural Dubbo Export Connection Session is being hosted by Dubbo Regional Council on November 13.

The event aims to equip people in the region with the right knowledge and resources to make exporting out of our region, a real and viable option they consider for business growth.

“We produce some fantastic goods and services in our local economy, everything from food to manufactured goods to fibre, in many cases they are world class products and operation,” DRC Economic Development Team Leader Tim Nichols said.

“Council aims to help our businesses understand that one, they’re products and services are in demand around the world and two how they can make them available to people all around the world.”

Mr Nichols said the Economic Development Team have been engaging and listening to the local industry about where there is current opportunities are for growth.

“It’s a core focus of the Economic Development Team, working alongside local businesses to assist and support them in their ambitions for long term and sustainable business growth,” he said.

“We are aiming to put people in connection with the right people in the right places who have the resources and information that can assist them in expanding their business into international markets, or assist and refine the existing processes for businesses who are already operating in international export markets.”

Mr Nichols said they expect approximately 60 people in attendance.

“DRC is confident that the attending people will gain many very useful insights… including making new contacts that will assist in getting people trade ready for exporting, information about the legalities of exporting, funding and grant opportunities, import/export tariff and tax information and also logistical frameworks that may assist them in overcoming transport issues,” he said.

“If the event can introduce local industry contacts with private and government representatives to make their business aspirations become reality of selling their goods or services to the rest of the world then it will have been a success.”

Some of the expert speakers on the day include, the Export Council of Australia CEO Alina Bain and NSW Trade and Investment Senior Export Advisor – Brent Bannister.

“We also have a local panel of businesses coming along to talk about how their experiences have been with exporting and how people can use some of their learnings to explore their own exporting opportunities,” Mr Nichols said.

The people on the local panel include Brett Stockings, Export Marketing – Middle East and North Africa from Fletcher International Exports and  Jane Rindfleish from Apiam Genetic Services.

Ian Smith from the Department of Premier and Cabinet (Dubbo based) will also be presenting.

Kurt Wilkinson from Fletchers Freight Intermodal, who operates the Fletcher Train Intermodal network for local goods to be shipped from Dubbo to Port Botany via rail.

Sam Lawrence from Crowe Horwath (International Trade Specialist) and Amelia Hartney from Crowe Horwath will talk about experiences in dealing with their clients and international trade.
