The Electorate Award was given to Ms Beggs on Monday at a surprise occasion at the Dubbo Golf Club after the regular ladies competition. She was nominated by her peers at the club for the hard work she does in coordinating competitions and recruiting members.
Dubbo MP Troy Grant said the Electorate Award was a fitting honour for a wonderful lady.
“Tina Beggs is the epitome of what is terrific about our community and people like her make Dubbo a wonderful place,” Mr Grant said.
“The ladies at the golf club love her, and to see them flock to her to congratulate her on the award was amazing.”
Ms Beggs started volunteering at the club after the death of her husband.
“I lost my husband 25 years ago and if I didn’t have golf I probably wouldn’t be on this Earth,” she said.
“I come out here and encourage everyone, especially those who have lost love ones or new players. A lot of them are too intimidated to come out here but I tell them we’re so laid back we’re almost lying down.”
The volunteer said she even liked to keep the ex-golfers involved.
“I’ve got a saying ‘beware of the chair’ because you have to keep moving to keep your bones and muscles strong,” Ms Beggs said.
She said she loved giving back.
