Macquarie Captain Brad Roberts blasted a century which included multiple sixes, but he thought the bowling was what won his team the game.
“We started well in the field and we kept it tight which is important when you field first,” he said.
“Our bowlers and fielders kept them to a respectable score of 160 which was pretty good. We just bowled line and length and that worked for us.
“I think the bowling was the main reason we won the game, Greta and Mark Scullard bowled beautifully and I reckon that’s where the game was won.
All modesty aside though, Roberts was pleased with his ton.
“I am happy to score the 100, I haven't had a bat all preseason in the nets, so to score a ton is good and I’ll take it. But I was really pleased to restrict Rugby to 160 on a small field,” he said.
“When we batted I just wanted not to lose wicket's and build partnerships, as long as one guy is scoring runs the other guy can push singles and that puts scoreboard pressure on the opposition.”
Medium pace bowler Greta Scullard said the century from the skipper won the game for Macquarie.
“It was an outstanding knock with lots of sixes, so it was an entertaining innings,” she said.
“We did bowl well, but the century did win the game for us.
“We were happy to keep Rugby to that score and we felt we had a chance of getting the total.”
Miss Scullard said she is looking forward to bowling in partnership with her dad this summer.
It was a very good knock with lots of sixes (Roberts' century), so it was an entertaining innings to watch. It won the game for us.

“It’s nice to play cricket with dad (Mark) he is a very calm person and its good to have him out there,” she said.
“We bowled well together and I hope that continues all summer.
“Our entire team were good in the field; we only dropped one catch, so it was a pretty even match for most of it.’
“I never felt we had it won until Brad built his partnership with Dave Murray that’s when I thought we got on top.
