Callback is the showcase of exemplary performances and compositions by Year 12 dance students in NSW and this year four College students have been nominated for their performances
Dubbo College dance teacher Jess Schulte said she was thrilled with the result and very proud of her students Piper Kleinig, Mariah Giusti, Olivia Kirkman and Elly Haksteeg.
“This year’s class has been amazing and we are really thrilled to have received the nominations,” Ms Schulte said.
“Dance has been going from strength to strength each year and these nominations are the icing on the cake for the students and the College.
“All students in my group showed incredible commitment and brought maturity and grace to every class in both Years 11 and 12.”
Ms Schulte choreographed the students’ core performance, as well as their major performance.
The major study, in three parts, focused on the elation of having human memory, the loss of those memories and its associated frustration.
Piper, Mariah and Elly received nominations for Callback for both their core and major performances, while Olivia received the nomination for her core performance.
The girls now need to provide a video of their performances for final consideration for Callback, due to take place in Sydney early next year.
Piper, 18, has been dancing for about 14 years and said she was very happy and excited about her performance result.
“We now have to work hard on our written HSC dance exam so we can be in the running for a Band 6,” she said.
Mariah, also 18-years-old, has been dancing for 15 years and plans to spend her gap year in 2019 teaching dance in Dubbo.
Dance has also played an important role in 17-year-old Olivia’s life for 15 years and, like her classmates, she is thrilled with her nomination for Callback.
Elly’s plans currently focus on a career in dance and she is currently away auditioning for pre-professional programs with a number of dance companies.
Ms Schulte said the large number of nominations from her class suggested her students’ performance results were amongst the top in the state.
Dubbo College Senior Campus principal Andrew Jones said the dance performance results were well deserved.
“Ms Schulte is an amazing teacher who shows incredible dedication and provides her students with valuable support and encouragement,” he said.
“She is an inspirational teacher who is able to manage and drive her students to achieve their goals and we are very privileged to have teachers like Ms Schulte at Dubbo College.”
As well as taking the Year 11 and 12 dance classes, Ms Schulte is HSIE head teacher at Dubbo College Senior Campus.
