Devoted family man and business owner Sandy Dunshea readily put up his hand for projects that contributed to the fabric of society for decades.
He died on August 29, aged 65 years.
The beloved husband, father and grandfather will be farewelled at a funeral service on Friday.
On Tuesday his family recalled the many interests to which he committed his time and energy, with the wider community the beneficiaries.
Rotary was a big one.
- The Dunshea family
“Rotary was a big one,” they said.
Mr Dunshea was on board for the first Destination Outback in 1990, and was involved in organising the fundraiser for many years.
The Rotary Club of Dubbo South event has contributed more than $1 million to the Royal Flying Doctor Base at Dubbo.
Mr Dunshea was also passionate about bringing Rotary’s youth driver training program to Dubbo teens each year.
He was also key to his club’s project to build a house as a fundraiser in 2004-2005, and was a role model for other Rotarians.
The owner of a financial planning business at Dubbo for 25 years, he also served as Dubbo Chamber of Commerce president for a period.
Mr Dunshea was a keen golfer, and he took his love for the sport and acumen into the elected role of Dubbo Golf Club president in 2008.
His family also recalled that Mr Dunshea, along with Brooke Habner and Doug Pearce, had been instrumental in finding the Dubbo Kart Club its home at its present Brocklehurst site.
Giving back to the community and helping anyone in need characterised the husband and father, his family said.
His proudest accomplishment was his family, and the arrival of six grandchildren brought “Poppy Sandy” great joy in recent years.
Mr Dunshea’s funeral will be held at 1.30pm on Friday at Dundullimal Homestead before a private cremation and in lieu of floral tributes donations to the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse would be appreciated.
