The supermarket giant had been handing out the bags to customers in NSW, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia since July 1 to help them adjust to a new regime of reusable bags as part of the retailer’s ban on single-use bags.
However, from today, customers will need to bring-their-own bag or they can purchase a Coles-branded reusable bag for 15 cents for each.
The move follows a number of backflips by the retailer surrounding the introduction of the bags, then the decision to provide them for free to customers.
Information on the Coles website states that the retailer’s “Better Bag is made from 80 per cent recycled material and is bigger, thicker and more durable than the previous bags”.
