Lloyd has been the event ambassador for the past five years, and was especially impressed on Sunday by the race records set in slippery conditions.
“Usually when it hasn’t been raining and it rains you get very slippery on the road and you lose maybe a centimetre every stride,” he said.
“That adds up so they’ve done very well for breaking a record in those sort of conditions.”
2017 saw the introduction of the NSW Regional Distance Running Championship series, which sees athletes accrue points across the Central West’s six major running festivals.
Lloyd said the bold initiative had been “magic” for the Dubbo event.
“It’s brought a lot of people in from all around the other regional areas and I know they’re all planning to go to Forbes as their next one,” he said.
“It’s a great motivation for these people to get together and race against each other.”

He continues to be a proud ambassador for the Dubbo Stampede.
“It’s a great place for people to bring their families, to run in a zoo – you can even stay at the zoo if you want!” Lloyd said.
“It gets so many more people motivated to be fitter and maybe lose weight and you get potential champions coming from these events so it’s fantastic to see.
“My hat’s off to Rod [Campbell] and his crew. They do a fantastic job.”
