The heart-safe city campaign, which was starting by the Australian Red Cross Dubbo, aims to have Automated External Defibrillators no more than two minutes apart in high traffic areas of Dubbo.
The campaign needs another six defibrillators to cover the CBD.
Dubbo Regional Council has also jumped on board the campaign, installing AEDs in council operated buildings and sporting grounds.
Dubbo mayor Ben Shields said he was pleased to see the campaign had gained such impressive momentum.
"l understand there are now 30 AED's installed around Dubbo,” Cr Shields said.
“On behalf of the Dubbo Regional Council I wanted to thank Australian Red Cross for helping to make the campaign a success and to say how pleased the Regional Council is that we have been able to support the campaign further through the installation of more AED units.”
Dubbo Red Cross first aid trainer George Chapman said council had provided great support for the campaign.
“When I approached councillor Shields at the start he didn't hesitate in providing a campaign support letter which really helped. They have also demonstrated their commitment by having a number of AED units installed,” Mr Chapman said.
The units cost about $3300 each. However, when the campaign first started, Mr Chapman said they would be invaluable.
“The doctors tell me that they’ll save up to two lives a week. It’s a big save. The hospital treats 322 people annually in Dubbo with heart conditions and not all of those make it. This will help them,” he said.
“We know that people who have out of hospital heart attacks normally don’t survive, but with these they do.
“They need to be no more than two minutes apart so they’re readily accessible, that’s why we need so many.”
The Rotary Club of Dubbo have launched an appeal for donations.
Donations to the appeal can be made by direct deposit using BSB number 932 000 and account number 100 380 639.
