Sharika-Marrie Howard and Emily O’Dae addressed Dubbo Regional Council on the Youth Council’s plans recently.
As part of their presentation, they covered the highlights of the Youth Council in the past two years, including the Westview Drive-In in 2017, which started as an idea from a 12-year-old member.
“It showcased the Dubbo City Youth Council as a group that acts on ideas and a place where young people can achieve their goals,” Ms Howard said.
In three nights, nearly 6000 people attended the Drive-In and almost $60,000 in revenue was made.

Ms Howard said it was seen as the best project the Youth Council had ever put on and one of the city’s best events.
However, when asked by mayor Ben Shields if the event would ever be held again, Ms Howard was uncertain.
“It was a lot of work that was put into doing the Drive-In, a lot of hours. It is something we have discussed but it’s not something we are definitely going to go ahead with again, we’re not too sure just yet,” she said.
Cr Shields was full of praise for the Youth Council.
“I can honestly say it’s the best youth council we have had in this city going on at least 20 years now, probably since its inception in the early ‘90s. The reputation you guys are starting to get not just in Dubbo but going around the state is huge,” Cr Shields said.
The mayor said he had no doubt the city was proud of the Youth Council.
When the Drive-In was held last year it was the first time it had been used since 1984.
