The item is on the agenda at the upcoming council meeting. The August committee meetings will be held at the Dubbo council chambers on Monday night, starting at 5.30pm.
Establishing the area as a fossicking district is expected to provide economic benefits through increased tourism, while also creating recreational advantages to fossickers in the area.
The council report on the agenda item says gazetting the land as a fossicking district does not provide open access to the land, but would allow fossickers to explore without holding a mineral or petroleum exploration licence.
In Dubbo, gold, common opal, chalcedony, agate and fossil deposits have all be recorded.
The committee meetings will also include the allocation of $25,000 to groups through the Bodangora Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund, including $4800 to the Wellington Warrior Football Club.
