Dubbo Regional Council is proud to support the Wellington Eisteddfod by providing in-kind funding under council’s major event sponsor and ignite programs.
Not only is it a great forum to showcase regional talent in the disciplines of dance, instrumental, vocal and choral, speech and drama, but it is also an enjoyable time for family and friends to get together.

I have fond memories of the eisteddfod trail I shared with my son attending eisteddfods in Dubbo, Gulgong, Orange, Bathurst and Sydney.
It doesn’t matter where the eisteddfod; backstage and dressing room areas are maxed beyond capacity to accommodate the thousands of competitors.
I remember Oscar being allocated a broom cupboard at one regional eisteddfod!
There is something about eisteddfods that creates an atmosphere of anticipation and excitement, from staying in a motel if you are out of town, to the smell of hairspray in the foyer and meat pies in the cafe, from shopping jaunts in between sessions to freaking out looking for that missing dance shoe or hair piece!
As Wellington Civic Centre is now part of Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre Branch of Dubbo Regional Council, visitors to Wellington Civic Centre will see some changes take place at the venue. Our team has worked closely with the very capable Deidre Miller, current caretaker of the venue, and eisteddfod committee members, Yvonne Redfern and Naomi Jeffrey to ensure the venue is well-presented, safe and prepared for the influx of people.
In the short term, the dressing rooms have received a fresh coat of paint, steps repaired, split system air-conditioners installed, addition of temporary dressing room space, back stage wall painted black and house lights repaired.
Medium to long term plans include a large storage room, an upgrade of the stage lighting and sound system and re-configuration and upgrade of the kiosk area - all dependent on the success of the grant applications submitted.
Over the next few weeks take time out to pop over to the Wellington Civic Centre, buy a ticket to the session of your choice and enjoy some quality regional entertainment as well as the delicious food on-site provided by the eisteddfod café. Even if you want to go for a stroll, Wellington boasts an excellent range of cafes, restaurants, pubs and bistros.
I’m heading to Brisbane this weekend to see Oscar perform with the Queensland Ballet Company and Academy Dancers in Synergy 2018.
It feels like it was yesterday that I watched him perform in his first Eisteddfod as a four-year-old.
