The team had to argue that ‘commercials are the best part of television’.
The win comes just a week after the team bested 2018 Mulvey Cup winners Bathurst High in the regional final of the Premier’s Debating Challenge.

After going down to Bathurst in their opening Mulvey Cup tie, Dubbo captain Swazi Sharma said beating Orange was “the cherry on the cake”.
“[The topic] was not our first preference,” she said. “We just increased the scope of the debate … to broadcasting networks, marketers and how consumers also don’t mind looking at ads.”
Four of the five debaters graduate this year, meaning the team will be left in the hands of year 11’s Hannah Tucker.
Swazi praised her “absolutely amazing” teammates, and credited the team for building her confidence with English. Swasi only moved to Dubbo from Nepal in 2012.
“I feel like if I didn’t do debating, I wouldn’t have the confidence to go out in the public and put my opinions out there,” she said. “We’ve got some pretty good debaters coming up … hopefully next year is bigger and better!”
