The Fire & Rescue NSW and Rural Fire Service members are in training for the 2018 Firefighters Climb for Motor Neurone Disease challenge.
The 10 Dubbo firies will take on the 1504 stairs of the Sydney Tower Eye on October 20.
As they climb the 98 storeys, they’ll be dressed in full structural gear that has a combined weight of 20kg.
The Dubbo team has adopted the name ‘What Were We Thinking’.
The firies are hoping the community will dig deep to help them reach their fundraising target of $15,000.
They’ll be holding barbecues at Aldi on July 14 and September 8, and at Tradelink on July 28.
Before the big climb, the team is training daily.
“It’s not the weight that concerns us, it’s the heat,” Joe Bacon said.
Firefighter Brett Ridley is one of three from Dubbo who’s embarking on the challenge for a second year.
“I had a great time, made some new friends from different stations,” he said.
