Reflections Holiday Parks has introduced what it believes is a safe fuel supply solution following its decision that fuel facilities wouldn’t be available for guests at Wyangala Dam and Burrinjuck Waters.

In a letter posted to its Facebook page earlier this month, Reflections told park patrons, “this temporary and safe fuel supply solution involves us purchasing Dangerous Goods compliant shipping containers, for the affected parks, which will be utilised as secure fuel storage facilities”.
In May, Reflections CEO Steve Edmonds issued a statement stating “to ensure visitor safety, it is not permitted to carry fuel into the parks for vehicles and/or boats which needs to be decanted.
“Boat owners are allowed to bring in fuel that is within their boat tanks.
“Secondary supply tanks with fully enclosed decanting systems, where they can be connected from the tank directly to the outboard motor is allowed,” he said in May.
Reflections says the shipping containers it has purchased are “ventilated and self-bunded to contain spills”.
Park visitors will be able to place their fuel containers in a “decanting area adjacent to the containers which will be monitored and controlled by authorised staff”.
“Our staff will be inducted and trained on the correct safety procedures to operate and manage this area for guests and it will be equipped with fire extinguishers, spill kits and other relevant safety items,” Reflections said.
“Staff will play a role in the retrieval of guests’ fuel from the locked container, decanting the fuel on their behalf whilst following our strict safety procedures,” they said.
Reaction to the Reflections decision has been mixed.
On social media Joy Dunn-Russell posted she has camped at Wyangala since she was three years-old and described the move as the “most short sighted decision I’ve seen in regards to Wyangala”.
“The township visitors, the seasonal visitors the regular weekend visitor will leave and not come back,” she posted.
In contrast ,Craig Dolbel posted, “It definitely is unfortunate and going to turn a lot of people away. But keep in mind, I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t of been an easy decision, and probably not a decision made by the people that have more than likely been fielding abusive calls all day. Hopefully it’s a temporary situation that will be sorted out quickly”.
