The panel will play an essential role in ensuring the region is inclusive to everyone with Dubbo Regional Council allocating $500,000 per year over the forward four year budget to upgrade infrastructure to meet modern accessibility standards.
Dubbo Regional Council mayor Ben Shields said the primary function of the Disability Inclusion Technical Panel would be helping to prioritise the funding allocated.
“We want a city and local government area that is accessible and inclusive to everyone – our events, programs and developments should be planned to address the needs of every member of our community,” Cr Shields said.
The panel will provide advice regarding the implementation of the Dubbo Regional Council Disability Inclusion Action Plan and will support the identification of council controlled problem areas throughout the region that are in need of being upgraded to modern accessible standards.
“People with a disability participate and make a positive contribution to our region and it is council’s responsibility to facilitate the ongoing contribution through the services we provide.
“This panel will guide us on making the right decisions about the high priority areas so we can achieve our goal of making Dubbo Regional Council the most accessible in the ctate,” Cr Shields said.
Council are seeking five community representatives who will form part of the panel along with councillors and council employees.
Nominations close at 5pm Friday, June 22. To complete a nomination visit the Dubbo or Wellington Council Administration Buildings or contact 6801 4000.
