The matinee first performance of Man of Steel is a sell-out on the back of strong support from schools across the city, college executive principal Stacey Exner reports.
She’s also delighted seats in Dubbo Regional Theatre (DRTCC) are “filling up fast” for night-time performances on June 27 and 28.
The musical brings together more than 125 students and staff members, including a cast of 44 and a band of 23 members.
“Hopefully we can get two sold-out performances then as well,” Mrs Exner said.
Full dress rehearsals began at the weekend for the show, understood to be the first school-based production to play at the DRTCC.
A props team of 25 people, a costuming team of 10 and a production team of 12 staff, are also hard at work.
Mrs Exner, who will have the front-of-house role for the shows, said the production was providing students with a valuable experience.
“We’re really excited that we can put our musical on in the leading theatre in Dubbo, because it gives a real authentic experience for the students,” she said.
“But also everything the public’s going to see is authentic assessment tasks.”
All the artworks were being completed by students in the visual arts classes and the drama students had been working on the project in their drama classes.
“It makes it real for the students… they’re actually seeing their product in action, which I think is really effective when the students can see it in real life, it’s actually something they’ve been working towards,” Mrs Exner said.
“We’re really excited about that.”
Man of Steel tells the story of the superhero and heroine, and their entertaining battle with the evil Countess Olga and her henchmen.
Year 11 student David Woods won the title role, while Year 12 student Phoebe Farrell will take on the role of heroine Linda Street and Year 10 student Maeve Sparrow will play the villainous Countess Olga.
Ms O’Callaghan encouraged the city to turn out in support of the show.
“Our team of students, staff and parents have been working really hard on the musical now for months and the audience can expect a professional and highly-polished performance,” she said.
“This will be the first time a school has undertaken a production of this magnitude for performance at the Dubbo Regional Theatre.
“We are really looking forward to the show on Wednesday June 27 and Thursday June 28 at 6.30pm.”
Tickets are on sale at the DRTCC box office and website.
