Twins, Skye and Caitlin Elder, made their debut as violinists on Monday morning at the City of Dubbo Eisteddfod.

The five-year-olds were among six beginners to compete in the String Solo Competition for a medal and certificate.
Skye and Caitlin both played their favorite pieces Oh, Come, Little Children and Minuet no. 3, and placed third and first respectively. Caitlin said she “was excited” and Skye said she “loved playing the violin”.
Adjudicator Lyndy Reksten said despite “being the beginners section, there were some very very fine players”.
Skye and Caitlin are taught by private instructor Frances Evans and their mother who is a music teacher, Lyndal Elder.
Skye and Caitlin’s said they were “not nervous” even though this was their first Eisteddfod since taking up violin a year ago. They both said it “felt good” to perform and plan to compete again next year.
Their older sister Larissa plays both of her favourite instruments, the violin and the piano, and won an award for her performance on Monday morning. Skye, Caitlin and Larissa played together in the String Duo/Trio event later that day together.
Their mother Lyndal Elders said she was “very proud” that all three of her daughters had won awards.
