Scrumhalf Pat Berryman, who has developed into a key first-grader for the Dubbo Roos, and prop Josh Jasprizza earned selection after fine performance for Central West at the NSW Country Championships.
This weekend they and the Cockatoos will play in a very important Gen Blue selection trial, with players identified from the trial to be put forward for potential selection in the National Rugby Championships (NRC) Under 19’s competition later this year.
The colts will play several matches on Sunday against four Gen Blue teams, established by the coaches of Shute Shield teams in conjunction with the Elite Youth Development’s own talent identification processes.
One of the players keeping an eye on the matches will be Narromine product and former Australian Sevens star, Pat McCutcheon.
McCutcheon is now the Elite Youth Development Manager in NSW Rugby and has been a big part of putting the weekend’s matches together.
“It’s vital that we have representative matches like this upcoming weekend where the NSW Country Colts take on city based teams in order to be inclusive and create an opportunity for all players in NSW to be selected for our NRC Under 19’s” he said.
The NSW Country opens will play the Brumbies Provincial side.
