There are buddy systems and a big sister/little sister program, along with the ‘City Family’ scheme that matches boarders with a day school family in the same year group, which enables further connections and support.
The annual Boarder Fun Day is always an action-packed way for the boarding school to start off their year. The girls are all placed into coloured teams, made up of girls from all year groups. In these teams, they compete in a series of action games to win points for their team, and participate in team building exercises along the way.
Following a barbecue lunch, the afternoon is spent in the school’s Aquatic Centre, where the senior boarders organise further competitions and synchronised swimming routines judged by Head of Boarding, Mrs Rochelle Wiley. Competition is always fierce as the girls compete to win points for their year groups to go towards the ‘battle of the houses’ competition, where the winning boarding house enjoys a pizza party at the end of the year.

Abbotsleigh boarders also follow their preferred pursuits and passions alongside their academic and co-curricular activities. Outstanding achievements are always celebrated such as those by Year 11 student, Skye Sylvester, who was recently awarded 2017 NSW champion overall rider and 2017 NSW champion secondary show jumper at the NSW EFA equestrian awards night.
I do believe that boarding at Abbotsleigh provides a home away from home. Our central goal is to provide a happy, secure and fulfilling experience for all of our boarders
- Mrs Rochelle Wiley, Head of Boarding
Skye said that growing up on a farm she had the privilege of being around horses her whole life but confirmed that juggling boarding school and horses can sometimes prove extremely challenging.
