Hannah Ferguson, 19, and her boyfriend Reagen Skinner, 21, lost their lives when a semi-trailer crashed into their vehicle while they were stopped at the road work site on the Newell Highway.
“During this work on January 16, a semi-trailer travelling southbound on the highway failed to stop and crashed into seven vehicles which were stopped at the road work site tragically leading to the death of a young couple and injuring a number of others,” Member for Dubbo Troy Grant said.
“The crew were deeply affected by this and asked whether they could do something to remember those involved.
“The memorial has not only helped the crew deal with their feelings after the incident but has also provided the crew with a way of expressing their condolences to the families of the victims.
The rest area alongside the work site, which was closed for the duration of the work, has now reopened.
