West Dubbo’s Jessica Ball, Cooper McMullen and James Robinson and Railway’s Logan Fraser and Jono Davis feature in the 14-person squad, which also features bowlers from Blayney, Coonabarabran, Gulgong, Molong, Mudgee, Orange and Trangie.
Almost 40 bowlers competed at the titles, which featured singles, pairs and fours contests across three days.
Tuesday was the Singles’ Championships, which was taken out by Davis who dominated the final winning 31-4.
Wednesday saw the pairs’ contest, and the surprise packet was the young team of Cooper Dart and Zac Miller (West Dubbo). This pairing had the large crowd on their feet as they fought through the preliminary rounds and into the semi-finals, downing much older and more experienced players along the way. The other semi-finalists were Fraser and Davis, Jordan Thompson Gulgong) and Tim Walsh (Nyngan), and Lachie Thompson (Gulgong) and Tom Rich (Mudgee).
Lachie Thompson and Rich brought the run of Dart and Miller to an end (14-9), and Jordan Thompson and Walsh upset the favourites, Fraser and Davis, with their last bowl, winning 12-11.
The final was also closely contested with Jordan Thompson and Walsh getting over Lachlan Thompson and Rich, 15-12.
On Thursday bowlers formed teams for the Fours’ Championships. In the semi-finals, the team of Lachie Thompson, Rich, Leigh Brown and Jordan Thompson, was far too good for the Molong team of Jason Weekes, Brendon Peschka, Hayley Sharpe and Lachlan Wark. In the other semi, Miller, Fraser, Walsh and Davis had too many guns for the composite team of Tom Bowman (Coonabarabran), Jess Ball (West Dubbo), Zac Farr (Blayney) and Reece Robinson (Orange Country Club).
In the final, Thompson’s team was far too consistent for Davis’ side, claiming a commanding 17-10 win.
There was a terrific show of effort and sportsmanship from all competitors, while organisers did a great job in catering, preparing the greens and ensuring a successful three days.
All winners of the zone championships will contest the State Championships at Warilla in the July holidays.
