If you want to impress the kids with some great school holiday entertainment, take the family to see JUNK by the Flying Fruit Fly Circus on Saturday, April 21 at 6pm. This show was included in the Season program because it highlights the theatrical talents of 17 youths between the age of 10 and 18 in the area of acrobatics, shadow puppetry and world-class circus skills. It has a clever and quirky interchanging set that ensures there is something exciting happening on stage throughout the 60 minute performance.
JUNK is about a modern day boy going back in time to circa 1940s where parental anxiety about the safety of their children was minimal. There were no televisions or iPhones but instead hopscotch, rubber tyres, playground elastics and manufacturing your own fun through recycling. The clichéd marketing line ‘great for young and old’, really is true about this performance. Tickets start at $20!
Another family show in the holidays is Eireborne on Thursday, April 26 at 8pm. The setting is an Irish pub complete with a larrikin bar tender, leading Irish dancers and live band. There’s Irish dancing, of course, but also a fusion of jazz, tap and ballet. Did you know the focus for an Irish dancer is to look like their spinal cord has been replaced by a pole. No part of the body should move from the waist up! Historically, we always have a full house when it comes to Irish dance spectaculars and I can see ticket sales heading the same way for this one.
Dubbo Regional Council has two great convention centres in the Wellington Civic Centre and the Convention Centre that is part of the DRTCC. Wellington Civic Centre shares many characteristics to the Convention Centre (previously known as the Dubbo Civic Centre). They both have expansive flat floor auditoriums approximately 600 square metres, a stage, dressing rooms, commercial kitchen, bar, well-presented foyers and ample parking. This presents many exciting opportunities for the community and visitors to the region, so please watch this space!
