Trying times often bring out the best in people, and that’s exactly the case for Dubbo’s events and catering vendors in the wake of Rhino Lodge going into receivership.

The news came to light on Wednesday that no further activity would take place at the Camp Road venue, after Chamberlains SBR were appointed as the receivers over the land and buildings.
But what has followed has been a groundswell of support for the affected couples, as businesses rally together to help ensure they still get their special day.
The Grazier’s Table’s Stacey Bohm is coordinating the effort, and has already heard from about 35 brides.
“It’s devastating for them … for the owners of Rhino Lodge as well. I don’t think there are any winners in this debacle,” she said. “But let’s just pull together … we do have some very upset people that thought they knew what their wedding day was going to be and now it’s going to be different. Not worse or better, just different.”
Ms Bohm is arranging for vendors to open their doors on Saturday, April 21, and working with venues to accommodate as many dates as possible.
“People don’t want to change their date because then they lose money with photographers, hair and makeup … the main thing is finding an alternative [venue] … then building everything else around that,” she said.
Many businesses have offered to cater at cost, Ms Bohm said, while others have offered to provide free or discounted cakes, stationary, decorations and venue hire to help “alleviate the cost”. Offers have come from as far away as the Warrumbungles and Trangie.
“People have offered … time, goods, their skills, their equipment … I think all the brides will be able to be covered with just about everything they need,” she said. “People have been really generous … Getting 30 businesses to … come together to help people they don’t know and they probably won’t see again is a pretty good indication of how good a community Dubbo is. We’re proud to be Dubbo residents, especially in light of something like this.”
