Tiffany Harvey had always been passionate about helping people, particularly the elderly, but her remote location made it extremely difficult to gain qualifications.
That was until TAFE NSW introduced her to a Certificate III in Individual Support (Aged Care) course that she could study online with TAFE Digital.
This meant Ms Harvey could study much closer to home, reduce her travel and accommodation costs among a myriad of other benefits.
“Thanks to TAFE NSW, I was able to travel a short distance to the Coonabarabran Connected Learning Centre and connect easily by video conference with my teachers and other students at TAFE NSW Dubbo,” she said.
TAFE NSW aged care and nursing teacher Karlie Harris provided the support and access to the space Ms Harvey needed to be able to study without interruption or distractions, she said.
“With the skills, knowledge and qualification I now have, I will be able to provide complex care to the elderly,” she said.
“It has also helped me develop on a personal level and gain a deeper understanding of the industry.
“I have made the move to Dubbo, and plan on working in aged care and continuing my studies in a Diploma of Nursing at TAFE NSW.”
Miss Harris said Ms Harvey was an outstanding student who participated well in class, and was supportive of her fellow classmates.
“We have put Tiffany in contact with some of the best aged care providers in the Dubbo area and I have no doubt she will be working in the industry very soon while continuing her studies in nursing,” Miss Harris said.
Miss Harris said it was just one example of TAFE NSW offering world-class training and education opportunities for students no matter their location, allowing them to study in their own time, at their own pace and their preferred space.
