Rugby Blue sets up all-Rugby Dawson Cup decider with strong win over Macquarie White

Rugby’s RSL-Whitney Cup side will start favourites in the decider after finishing as minor premiers while the club will definitely claim the RSL-Dawson Cup after Rugby Blue won through Sunday’s semi to set-up a clash with Rugby Red.

Matt Naden, fresh from being named third grade player of the year, played a key role as Rugby Blue downed Macquarie White by 63 runs to advance to the consolation final.

Naden was one of a number of batsmen to do a job after Rugby Blue was sent in, making 34 while Dale Watmore top-scored with 45 and Bryce O’Malley (36) and James Rootes (35) also helped the total reach 5/180.

Cody Green took 2/23 for Macquarie White.

Rugby Blue took wickets at regular intervals with the ball, removing the dangerous Luke Patis (17) early while Justin Gavin could only manage 23 in the middle order.

Darcy Chewings took 3/10 while James Rootes took 2/25 as Macquarie White was dismissed for 117.
