The RSL Aquatic and Health Club pool has been out of action for its more than 1000 users for more than two weeks.
The 25-metre heated pool was closed “until further notice” as a “precautionary measure”.
RSL Club human resources manager Rebecca Zaia told the Daily Liberal on Monday structural engineers would be looking at the pool this week.
In the meantime efforts were being made to accommodate patrons.
The RSL swimming club had been able to use the Dubbo Aquatic Leisure Centre, the council-owned outdoor pool, Ms Zaia reported.
“They [the aquatic centre] have their own club, so limited use, but they have helped us, which has been great,” she said.
The pool’s closure last month attracted considerable interest among Daily Liberal readers.
Among its more than 1000 patrons are 900 children in learn-to-swim classes, the RSL reported.
“It’s such a big thing for the community, you don’t realise until something like this happens,” Ms Zaia said.
“It’s a big thing for the community being the only one in Dubbo.
“We’re sorry for the inconvenience it’s caused everybody.”
The gym and all other club facilities remain open and are running as normal.
A possible issue with the roof had come to light as the organisation looked at doing upgrades, and applying for a grant for that purpose, Ms Zaia told the Daily Liberal in February.
The club had brought in an external provider to assess the pool area for what to do for a grant application.
“They were the ones that alerted us to possible issues with the roof,” Ms Zaia said.
She said the club had taken it on itself to act, closing the pool and bringing in structural engineers.
“We have put solar panels on the roof, and perhaps that has something to do with it,” she said.
“But we need to get the inspectors, structural engineers to come in and have a look and give us the answers.
“So we’ve done it as a precautionary measure, until we get the answers.”
