James Farley’s Working Within will officially open at the Western Plains Cultural Centre on February 10.
The work will be the first HomeGround exhibition at the WPCC for 2018.
HomeGround provides emerging regional artists with less than five years experience the opportunity to exhibit their work, as well as giving them experience with a professional curator to expand their practice and gain mentoring.
The program is supported by Orana Arts Inc.
Mr Farley grew up in Dubbo but currently lives and works in Wagga Wagga.
Working Within is an exhibition that uses traditional darkroom techniques without a camera. Working directly with photography paper and natural material from the land, Mr Farley explores the notion of the landscape and the way in which we use and regard the world we live in.
The exhibition’s official opening on February 10 at 2pm will include a talk by the artist.
Mr Farley, a lecturer in photographic practice and theory, describes himself as an “artist and curator exploring ecological thinking through post-photographic practice”.
He said his artwork was based on research, experimentation and collaboration.
