During the month of February 1980, the first air ambulance to service Dubbo and the surrounding region was given to the Dubbo Airport; a West Dubbo woman won the lottery; and 13-year-old Dubbo cyclist Stephen Powley won the silver medal at the NSW Track Championships.
Other causes for excitement in the Central West included the Dubbo Summer Sheep Show, and of course the various school swimming carnivals held in Dubbo and Wellington.
