That’s all that stands between Hugh Bowman and the title of world’s best jockey.
Dunedoo’s favourite son sits six points clear of Englishman Ryan Moore at the top of the official Longines World's Best Jockey standings.
The title of world’s best Group 1 jockey will be decided at Tokyo on Sunday in the Grade 1 Japan Cup (2400m).
With 12 points going to the winning jockey, six points for second and four for third, Moore has to win in Sunday’s feature event and hope Bowman finishes third or worse.
Bowman will ride Cheval Grand while Moore will be in the saddle of the Aidan O’Brian-trained Idaho.
When speaking about being top of the Longines standings earlier this season, Bowman was at his humble best.
The horse is what sets you apart from everyone else because all the top guys can ride.
- Hugh Bowman
"What distinguishes one jockey from another is the horse," Bowman said.
"I have been lucky enough to be riding the best horses in Australia and Hong Kong for the past two years, so that helps.
"The horse is what sets you apart from everyone else because all the top guys can ride.”
Cheval Grand was a $15 chance in the market for the Japan Cup on Friday afternoon while Idaho was at $26.
Bowman, who delighted fans all over when combining with Winx again this year, will be based in Japan until December 24 and also has rides at the International meeting in Hong Kong on December 10.
