The fundraiser, headed by Tracy Hanna, involved donations from organisations, individuals and a black tie bingo event at Dubbo RSL.
Ms Hanna said there had been some amazing donations towards the total, including $10,000 from the Titan Macquarie Mud Run, and items that were offered for auction.
“For the last few months I have been presented with so many oversize cheques so it’s nice to now be able to present one of my own to council,” she said.
“This was an amazing effort from the people of Dubbo, whether they donated $5 or $10,000, their contribution has been invaluable.”
Dubbo Regional Council administrator Michael Kneipp praised Ms Hanna for her commitment to the project.
“The support from Ms Hanna and the community in helping to fund the Liberty Swing is a wonderful example of the Council and the community working together to provide positive outcomes for the community,”
The swing and disabled toilet amenities are part of a broader playground and entertainment area that will be located at the entrance to the Dubbo Regional Botanical Garden. It is proposed to open in May 2018.
“What council is planning to do with the park is incredible and I can’t wait to see the first person have a turn in the liberty swing,” Ms Hanna said.
Mr Kneipp said in addition to the liberty swing, there was to be a full playground worth $1.3 million.
“The playground has been designed with accessibility for all abilities and ages to partake in physical and active play, including exploring, climbing, tunnels and hills.”
“There will also be a range of passive spaces for other activities such as yoga, Pilates and reading spaces.”
“A Senior Fitness Centre, which has been designed to help members of our senior community to maintain Fitness, Strength, Coordination and Confidence has also been allowed for.”
